Berentzen Peerkorn
The younger sibling of Apfelkorn, made with juicy, sweet pear. Softer and more floral than apple, at 15%, and like its big brother, best served ice-cold.

Apfelkorn, but with pear
Berentzen Peerkorn is made using the same approach as Apfelkorn, but with juicy, sweet pear. It comes from Haselünne in Germany, where Berentzen has been distilling since 1758. It is a mixed liqueur: sweet, fruity and light enough to drink cold and share at a party or in a bar.
Compared with Apfelkorn, Peerkorn is softer and more floral, and at 15% alcohol it is also slightly lighter; Apfelkorn is 18%. Where apple is fresh and tart, pear is rounder and sweeter. That makes it suitable as a shot, but also as the base for a long, summery drink with tonic or sparkling wine.
In brief
Soft, juicy and floral
Ripe pear
Juicy, sweet pear with a light floral note.
Sweet and round
Round and sweet, softer than Apfelkorn. The pear is clear, while the alcohol stays in the background.
Short and fresh
A short, fresh finish with pear. The colder, the fresher.
Flavor profile of Berentzen Peerkorn ice-cold. With tonic, it becomes drier and fresher.
Cold, short or long
Peerkorn is best served cold. As a shot at a party, or as a long drink with tonic or sparkling wine on the patio.
From the freezer
Place the bottle in the freezer for a few hours and pour 2 cl into a shot glass. The cold makes it slightly syrupy and brings out the pear's freshness.
