Why choose a double-walled ice bucket?
Between the two walls sits a layer of air that acts as insulation, so the warmth of your bar or table does not reach the ice directly. Combined with a removable inner bucket, the ice stays intact for hours longer.
How much ice do I need per guest?
In warm weather, reckon on roughly half a kilo of ice per guest per hour. For a table at home a bucket of one to two litres is enough; for a party you quickly end up at five to ten litres.
Why does my ice melt so fast?
Usually because it is sitting in its own meltwater. Water conducts heat about twenty-five times faster than air. Pour the water off regularly or use a bucket with a strainer base, and fill generously, because a large mass of ice keeps itself cold.
Can I scoop ice with a glass?
No. If the glass breaks in the ice you will not find the shards again and they end up in the drink. Always use an ice scoop or ice tongs. Behind the bar that is not a recommendation but a basic food safety rule.
