Dropshot
The Dutch liquorice liqueur you drink ice-cold as a shot. Everything about the flavour, Double Black, the difference from Salmari, Dropshot cola and the glass that goes with it.

Liquorice in a bottle, from Schiedam
Dropshot is a Dutch liqueur with the flavour of liquorice, made by Koninklijke De Kuyper in Schiedam, the genever city near Rotterdam. The liqueur is deep black, sweet and lightly salty, with 20% alcohol: mild enough to drink in one go as a shot, which is exactly the point.
Dropshot became one of the most popular shots in Dutch pubs and at festivals. Dropshot Double Black came later for lovers of salty liquorice: stronger and saltier, with 24% alcohol. Compared with Finnish Salmari, Dropshot is sweeter and milder, more like sweet liquorice than salmiak.
In brief
What types of Dropshot are there?

Dropshot
The original: black, sweet and mildly salty. Ice-cold as a shot or mixed with cola.

Dropshot Double Black
For true liquorice lovers: more intense, saltier and slightly stronger than the original.

Dropshot 1 litre
The large bottle for parties and clubs. It just fits in the freezer.

Dropshot minis
Eight small bottles containing exactly one shot each. Handy for on the go, as a treat or in the cooler.

Dropshot 10 cl
A small bottle to try, enough for five shots.

Salmari
The Finnish counterpart: saltier, stronger, and with a pronounced salmiak flavor. For those who find Dropshot too sweet.
Sweet licorice? The regular Dropshot. Salty licorice? Double Black or Salmari.
Sweet licorice, slightly salty, and very smooth
Licorice & licorice root
The aroma of a bag of sweet licorice: licorice root, anise, and a hint of salmiak.
Sweet and syrupy
Ice-cold, Dropshot is thick and smooth, like liquid licorice. The 20% alcohol is barely noticeable.
Lightly salty
The salty note of salmiak comes at the end, short and tingling. With Double Black, it is much more pronounced.
Flavor profile of Dropshot served ice-cold. Double Black is saltier and stronger.
Three ways to drink Dropshot
Dropshot belongs in the freezer: at -18 °C it becomes syrupy and smooth. At room temperature, it is much sweeter and thinner.
Ice-cold as a shot
Pour 2 to 4 cl from the freezer into a shot glass with a thick base and drink it in one go. Chill the glasses too, so the shot stays syrupy longer.
