What is Glenfiddich Bourbon Barrel 14?

Two types of American oak

The Bourbon Barrel 14 is the first Glenfiddich to be matured in two types of American oak. Fourteen years in ex-bourbon casks form the foundation and provide a rich, sweet flavour. The whisky then receives a short finish in new American oak casks that have been freshly charred, creating a lively vanilla note.

So there is no sherry wood involved, and you can taste it: while the 12 Years and 18 Years have sherry in their maturation, this whisky is sweet and woody in the style of a bourbon. At 43%, it is also slightly more robust than the 40% of the classic age statements, making it well suited to a stirred cocktail.

Everything about Glenfiddich →
What percentage of alcohol does Glenfiddich Bourbon Barrel 14 contain?
Glenfiddich Bourbon Barrel 14 is 43% ABV. That is stronger than the 12, the Solera 15 and the 18 Years, which are all 40% ABV.
Is Glenfiddich Bourbon Barrel a bourbon?
No. It is a Scottish single malt whisky from Speyside. The name refers to the casks: the whisky is matured in casks that previously held bourbon and gets a finish in new American oak.
What is the difference from Glenfiddich 12 Years?
The 12 Years is matured in ex-bourbon and sherry casks and is light and fruity. Bourbon Barrel 14 uses only American oak, is matured for two years longer, and is sweeter, woodier and stronger at 43%.
Is Glenfiddich Bourbon Barrel 14 smoky?
No, it does not contain any peated malt. The roasted note comes from the freshly charred barrels, not from peat smoke.
Which cocktail do you make with Glenfiddich Bourbon Barrel 14?
The Old Fashioned is the logical choice: the orange peel and toffee in the whisky pair perfectly with the recipe. A Whisky Sour and a Mint Julep also work well.
