What is Smirnoff?

From Moscow to the whole world: the best-known vodka there is

Smirnoff is a vodka that traces its origins to Pyotr Smirnov's distillery in Moscow, founded in 1864. After the Russian Revolution, the family took the recipe to the West; since the 1930s, Smirnoff has been made outside Russia and is now owned by Diageo. It has been the world's best-selling vodka for decades.

The standard bottle, Smirnoff No. 21 with the red label, is distilled three times and filtered ten times over charcoal. The result is a neutral, clean vodka at 37.5% that works in almost any cocktail. There is also a range of flavoured varieties and the ready-to-drink mixed beverage Smirnoff Ice.

What percentage of alcohol is in Smirnoff?
Smirnoff No. 21 and Smirnoff Vanilla contain 37.5% alcohol. The fruity flavors are lighter: Raspberry Crush and Mango & Passionfruit are 25%, while Miami Peach is 35%. Smirnoff Ice is a 4% mixed drink.
Is Smirnoff Russian?
The brand was founded in Moscow in 1864 by Pjotr Smirnov, but it has been made outside Russia since the 1930s. Today, Smirnoff is owned by British company Diageo, and the vodka is produced, among other places, in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Italy.
What is Smirnoff made from?
From grain. The vodka is distilled three times and then filtered ten times over charcoal, removing almost all flavor and aroma compounds and leaving a neutral, clean vodka.
What is the best way to drink Smirnoff?
Ice-cold from the freezer as a shot, or mixed with plenty of ice: in a Moscow Mule, Cosmopolitan or Espresso Martini, or simply with orange juice, tonic or cranberry juice. Drinking vodka neat at room temperature is not recommended.
What is the difference between Smirnoff and Smirnoff Ice?
Smirnoff is pure vodka at 37.5% ABV. Smirnoff Ice is a ready-to-drink vodka-based mixed drink with lime flavor and only 4% alcohol, comparable to a beer. It is best enjoyed chilled from the bottle or from a highball glass with ice.
How long does an opened bottle of Smirnoff last?
Unlimited, as long as the bottle is tightly sealed. Vodka does not spoil and barely changes in taste. The fruity varieties contain sugar and flavorings and are best consumed within a year of opening.
