What is Bokma 10 year aged?

A genever for whisky drinkers

Bokma 10 year aged is a grain genever that has been aged for ten years, with double aging in American and French oak. Two types of wood, two types of influence: American oak gives soft vanilla, while French oak adds structure and deep wood notes. Beneath it all is a hint of orange.

Where the 5 year still lets the grain genever shine through, the 10 year moves toward whisky. The juniper has receded into the background and the wood takes center stage. The ABV is the same as the other old Bokma varieties: 38%. This is the bottle to give as a gift or taste alongside a whisky.

How to drink it

Taste it like a whisky

Treat the 10 year like a good whisky: room temperature, a glass with a narrow opening and time.

Neat in a tasting glass

Pour 30 ml into a tulip-shaped tasting glass and let it sit for a few minutes. Smell the vanilla and orange, taste in small sips and note the long finish.

With a few drops of water

Add a few drops of water to 30 ml with a small spoon. The water opens up the wood and brings out the orange more.

Whisky glasses →

Alongside a whisky

Pour 20 ml of Bokma 10 year alongside 20 ml of your favorite whisky and taste them alternately. A fun way to show friends how far genever can go.

Bokma Aged 10 Years contains 38% alcohol, just like the 5-year-old and the Oude Genever.

Ten years, with double maturation in American and French oak. This gives soft vanilla, a hint of orange and deep wood notes.
What is the difference between Bokma Aged 5 Years and 10 Years?
Both are aged in American and French oak. The 5-year-old is lighter, with vanilla, nuts and wood. The 10-year-old has undergone double maturation and is deeper and woodier, with orange, bringing it closer to whisky.
What is the best way to drink Bokma Aged 10 Years?
Neat, at room temperature, in a tasting glass. A few drops of water can open up the flavour. Not in the freezer.
Is Bokma Aged 10 Years a whisky?
No, it is a Dutch grain genever. The ten years in oak do bring the flavour close to a light whisky, with vanilla and wood instead of pronounced juniper.
