What is Cointreau Noir?

Orange meets cognac

Cointreau Noir combines two French classics: Cointreau orange liqueur and Rémy Martin cognac. The sweet and bitter orange peels from the original are complemented by the soft aroma of cognac. The recipe is also enriched with a macerate of nuts and almond for greater depth.

Where regular Cointreau is colorless and mainly belongs in cocktails, Noir is golden with an amber glow and rich enough to drink neat. The alcohol content is the same: 40%. Think of it as Cointreau's digestif version, which also shines in cognac cocktails such as the Sidecar.

How to drink it

Three ways to drink Cointreau Noir

Noir is the Cointreau you can drink without a mixer. But it also makes classic cognac cocktails more complete.

Neat as a digestif

30 ml at room temperature in a small cognac glass, after dinner. Warm the glass in your hand for a moment; this brings out the cognac, vanilla and nut flavors best.

On the rocks with orange

50 ml Noir over a large ice cube in a tumbler, with an orange zest. Fresh at first, with a warm finish.

Tumblers →

Noir Sidecar

Shake 40 ml cognac, 25 ml Cointreau Noir and 20 ml lemon juice vigorously with ice, then strain into a coupe with a sugar rim. Deeper and rounder than with regular Cointreau.

Everything about Cointreau →
What is Cointreau Noir?

What percentage of alcohol does Cointreau Noir contain?
Cointreau Noir contains 40% alcohol, just like regular Cointreau. Cointreau Spicy is 30%.
What is the difference between Cointreau and Cointreau Noir?

Is Cointreau Noir the same as Grand Marnier?
No, although they look alike: both combine orange with cognac. Cointreau Noir is made with Cointreau and Rémy Martin cognac and also contains nuts and almond in the recipe.
How do you drink Cointreau Noir?
Neat as a digestif, on the rocks with a twist of orange, or in cognac cocktails such as the Sidecar. Because of the cognac, it is best enjoyed without much juice or soft drink.
