De Kuyper Oranjebitter
The orange drink of King's Day, from the distillery in Schiedam. Bittersweet and spicy, at 30% ABV: ice-cold in a shot glass, with bubbles or as an orange twist in a cocktail.

A bitter for the House of Orange
De Kuyper Oranjebitter is a Dutch bitter specially developed for festive occasions surrounding the House of Orange. Its flavor and color come from curaçao orange peel, complemented by a hint of anise. Together, they provide a spicy undertone not found in an ordinary orange liqueur.
At 30% ABV, it sits between De Kuyper's liqueurs and genevers. It is less sweet than a triple sec, and its vivid orange color makes it essential on King's Day. But it also works well outside King's Day: as a freezer-cold digestif or a bitter, orange accent in a cocktail.
In brief
Bitter, orange and slightly aniseed
Orange peel
The aroma of dried orange peel comes through immediately, underpinned by a soft, spicy anise note.
Bittersweet
Sweet at first, then bitter: the orange peel adds a dry, slightly bitter layer that keeps the sugar in check.
Spicy and warm
The anise returns in a warm finish. At 30% ABV, it lingers slightly longer than a liqueur.
Flavor profile of De Kuyper Oranjebitter neat and ice-cold. With bubbles, it is fresher and less bitter.
How to pour Oranjebitter
Oranjebitter is best served cold. Put the bottle in the freezer for a few hours; at 30% ABV, it will not freeze.
Ice-cold in a shot glass
3 cl of Oranjebitter from the freezer in a small shot glass, in one or two sips. This is how it is traditionally enjoyed on King's Day.
Liqueur glasses →Orange bubbles
15 ml Oranjebitter in a flute or coupe, topped up with 100 ml chilled cava or prosecco. A festive toast with a bitter orange note.
Champagne cocktails →Orange highball
30 ml Oranjebitter with 120 ml orange juice and a splash of sparkling water in a highball glass filled with ice. Fresh, orange and not too strong for a long afternoon.

Use Oranjebitter for colour and bitterness: a splash is enough to turn a familiar cocktail orange.
