What is Jim Beam Double Oak?

Two barrels, twice the oak

Every bourbon matures in a new, charred oak barrel. Jim Beam Double Oak does this twice: after the first maturation, the bourbon is transferred to a second, newly charred white oak barrel. The fresh wood provides a second dose of everything bourbon is known for.

You can taste that in its flavor: a rich, spicy note of toasted oak, complemented by deep, smooth aromas of caramel and toffee. Double Oak is bottled at 43%, just like Black. While Black gets its depth from extra years, Double Oak gets its depth from extra oak.

How to drink it

Three ways to drink Double Oak

Neat or over ice is the best way to experience the double maturation. If you want to mix it, make the Oak Fashioned.

Oak Fashioned

Stir 50 ml Double Oak, 5 ml sugar syrup and 2 dashes Angostura bitters with ice in a tumbler, pour over a large ice cube and squeeze a lemon peel over the top.

On ice

50 ml over a few large ice cubes. The melting ice softens the oak and gives the caramel and toffee more room.

Tumblers →

Neat alongside Black

Pour 20 ml Double Oak and 20 ml Jim Beam Black into two tasting glasses and taste them side by side. This way, you’ll notice the difference between extra years and extra oak.

Everything about Jim Beam →
What percentage of alcohol is in Jim Beam Double Oak?
Jim Beam Double Oak contains 43% alcohol, just like Jim Beam Black. White Label is 40%.
What does Double Oak mean?
That the bourbon is aged in two newly charred white oak barrels: first in one barrel, then in a second, fresh barrel. This gives it more woody notes, caramel and toffee.
What is the difference between Double Oak and Jim Beam Black?
Both are 43%, but they gain body in different ways. Black gets four extra years of aging; Double Oak is aged in two newly charred barrels in succession and is woodier and spicier.
How do you drink Jim Beam Double Oak?
Neat or on ice, to taste the rich flavor of the double maturation. If you want to mix it, make an Oak Fashioned: an Old Fashioned with Double Oak and a lemon peel.
Is Double Oak suitable for bourbon and cola?
It can, but most of the wood and toffee character will be lost. For long drinks, White Label is the better choice; save Double Oak for neat pours and stirred cocktails.
