What is The Macallan Double Cask 15 Years?

Two types of oak, fifteen years of patience

Double Cask 15 Years matures for at least fifteen years in sherry-seasoned casks made from two types of oak. American oak gives soft notes of vanilla, citrus and butterscotch, while European oak adds subtle spices. The casks are combined only after those fifteen years.

Compared with the Double Cask 12, this whisky has more depth and more power: 43% instead of 40%. Those extra percentage points give it a fuller mouthfeel and a longer finish. The color is completely natural and comes only from the wood. Its character remains typically Double Cask: sweet, warm and approachable, but more mature.

How to drink it

Three ways to taste Double Cask 15

Macallan recommends drinking it neat, but ice or whisky stones are also fine. Whatever you choose: take your time.

Neat

30 ml in a tulip-shaped tasting glass; let it rest for a few minutes. Smell gently first for the vanilla and citrus, then taste in small sips for the butterscotch and spices.

Glass: tasting glass →

Over one large ice cube

40 ml over one large, clear ice cube in a heavy tumbler. It melts slowly, cooling the whisky without making it watery. Sweeter and fresher than neat.

Tumblers →

With whisky stones

If you want it chilled but undiluted, place two or three chilled whisky stones in a tumbler and pour 40 ml over them. This keeps the 43% ABV intact.
