Liefmans
Liefmans is a Belgian beer brand from Oudenaarde. At Gall & Gall, you will mainly find Liefmans Fruitesse: a lightly sweet fruit beer with cherry, raspberry and strawberry that you drink over ice. Here you can read what it tastes like, how to serve it and which glass goes with it.
Red fruit, ice and a stemmed glass
Liefmans is a Belgian brewery from Oudenaarde, in the Flemish Ardennes. The brewery has traditionally been known for oud bruin and fruit beer, and has been part of Duvel Moortgat since 2008. In the Netherlands, Liefmans is best known for one beer: Liefmans Fruitesse.
Fruitesse is a blend of beer matured on real cherries, supplemented with natural fruit juices. The result is a light, sparkling 3.8% beer with the taste of red fruit: kriek, raspberry, strawberry, blueberry and elderberry. The brand calls it an aperitif beer, and it is deliberately served over ice. This makes it different from most beers: you drink it more like a spritz than a pilsner. Those who prefer not to drink alcohol can choose Fruitesse 0.0.

Sweet red fruit with a fresh edge
Cherry & berry
You immediately smell red fruit: cherries, raspberries and strawberries, with a hint of blueberry.
Sweet and sparkling
Lightly sweet and fruity, with bubbles and a slight tartness. The ice makes it fresher and less sweet.
Short and fresh
The finish is short and fruity. You taste little beer and little bitterness, making it approachable for those who don't like beer.

How to serve Liefmans
Fruitesse is made to be enjoyed over ice. It's not just a gimmick: the ice balances the sweetness.
On the rocks
Fill a large balloon glass halfway or more with ice cubes and slowly pour the bottle or can over them. The more ice, the longer it stays cold.
With fruit
Add a few raspberries, cherries or a strawberry to the glass, or a mint leaf. It looks beautiful and the fruit complements the flavor.
As an aperitif
Liefmans itself calls Fruitesse an aperitif beer. Serve it as a light alternative to a spritz, for example on a summer afternoon.
Also delicious: Aperol Spritz →Liefmans at the table
A sweet fruit beer pairs best with desserts and with the lighter side of drinks and snacks.
Chocolate and red fruit
With chocolate cake, strawberries and raspberries. The fruit in the beer and on the plate enhance each other.
Pancakes and waffles
With pancakes and red fruit or a Belgian waffle with whipped cream.
Soft cheese
With Brie, goat cheese or mascarpone and a little honey. The beer's sweetness and acidity cut through the creaminess.
Salad and ice cream
With a fresh salad with goat cheese and nuts, or simply with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
The right glass for Liefmans
Liefmans is served in a large stemmed balloon glass. It fits a 25 cl bottle with a generous handful of ice, and the rounded shape retains the aroma of the fruit. These are the glasses we recommend ourselves.
