Nine drinks for King's Day
The color comes from the fruit in all nine drinks, not from food coloring, and most of them can be prepared the night before.

Serving a group
How much to allow per person
Allow eight 12.5 cl glasses per liter, or six more generous 16 cl servings. A 1.5-liter pitcher is therefore enough for about twelve glasses, and two of those pitchers will go a long way for an afternoon with twelve guests, especially if water and a non-alcoholic option are also available. Keep in mind that melting ice will add to the volume, so don't fill the pitcher completely to the brim.
Prepare ahead and keep chilled
Everything you do the night before is something you don't have to do on the day itself. Juice the fruit and store it covered in the fridge, chill the bottles, and cut the fruit and keep it in a container covered with plastic wrap: that saves half an hour in the morning. Large 4 cm ice cubes melt noticeably more slowly than cubes from a standard tray, so freeze those in advance too. Place the pitcher in a bucket with ice and water instead of ice alone; water conducts heat better and keeps the pitcher cooler.
Pour from one pitcher instead of using individual glasses
A pitcher or punch bowl saves you from mixing all day. Use a simple ratio: for one part spirits, add just over three parts juice, plus a splash of sparkling water. Prepare the base without ice or sparkling water, chill it, and only top it up when the guests arrive. A dispenser with a tap is more convenient on a balcony than a pitcher, because nobody has to lift it; an ordinary serving pitcher works just as well for a smaller group. Put a pitcher without alcohol next to it with the same juice, so nobody has to ask what's in it.
Orange on the balcony or pavement
For King's Day, many municipalities temporarily ban glass in the busiest part of the city. Exactly what applies varies by municipality and by year, so check before taking glassware outside. Glass is generally allowed on your own balcony or pavement, but shatterproof glassware is more practical there too: it can tip over without causing problems, and you can stack it. The shatterproof glasses are reusable, so you won't be left with a bag of disposable cups.
Beer in public
Beer is at least as commonplace as a cocktail on King's Day, and that is precisely where the glass ban comes into play. An unbreakable 40 cl glass holds about the same as a regular hospitality beer glass, so you can pour a pilsner into it without it looking out of place. If you do want real glass at home, you will find the models among the beer glasses. Pour into a tilted glass and straighten it for the last part, and you will get a head of about two centimeters.
What you serve the children
Children drink the same as everyone else on King's Day, only without alcohol. The same orange base of orange juice with sparkling water and a slice of orange is already one option. There are also recipes made especially for the occasion: view the children's cocktails, the Shirley Temple or a Virgin Mojito. More alcohol-free options can be found among the mocktails. NIX18: under 18, no alcohol.
The right glass
Serving drinks outdoors calls for glassware that can withstand a collision with a curb. The unbreakable models below are made of plastic, can withstand up to five hundred washes in an industrial dishwasher according to the product description, and are stackable, which makes a difference when you carry them down the stairs in a crate. J-Line's orange wine glass immediately provides the right color, even when it contains water. Would you rather have a tall glass for a long drink? Take a look at the long drink glasses; for the jug or dispenser itself, there are water jugs and drink dispensers.

Handy for a large group
On King's Day, you don't make a single glass but an entire pitcher, and it helps to have tools designed for the job: a bar spoon that stirs a full pitcher in one go, a jigger for precise measuring, a citrus juicer for the juice and an ice cube tray for large cubes that stay intact longer outdoors. These are the bar tools we use ourselves; you'll find everything in our bar tools & cocktail sets.

What do you use to make these King's Day drinks?
For a pitcher of punch and the drinks below, you need vodka, white rum or prosecco. Well-known bottles include Aperol and Passoã. On each drink page, you can read the alcohol percentage, what it tastes like, which cocktails it works well in and which glass you need.
Frequently asked questions
Which drinks are orange on King's Day?
Anything with orange or passion fruit will naturally turn out the right color: a Tequila Sunrise, a Screwdriver, a Mimosa and an Aperol Spritz. Find the complete overview in the orange cocktails.
Which glass do you use on King's Day?
Use an unbreakable glass outdoors, and whatever you feel like indoors. The unbreakable glasses are made of plastic, stackable and dishwasher-safe, so you can use them again every year. For a long drink, choose a 40 cl model; for punch, use a shorter stemmed glass.
How many glasses do you get from one liter of punch?
Eight 12.5 cl glasses, or six more generous 16 cl glasses. So for a one-and-a-half-liter pitcher, count on about twelve glasses. Keep in mind that melting ice will add to the volume along the way, so do not fill the pitcher completely to the rim.
Can you make King's Day drinks without alcohol?
Yes. Leave out the spirits and top up with extra sparkling water and a splash of lime juice to retain the fresh undertone instead of just sweet juice. Find ready-made alcohol-free recipes in the mocktails and the kids' cocktails.
