Tanqueray Blackcurrant Royale
The dark purple Tanqueray. French blackcurrants and vanilla on a London Dry base, with a floral note inspired by black orchids. At 41.3%, the sweetest and fruitiest of the range.

Blackcurrant, vanilla and a floral twist
Tanqueray Blackcurrant Royale is a flavoured gin based on the London Dry. French blackcurrants and vanilla are added, along with a floral note that the brand says is inspired by black orchids. The color is deep purple; this is partly due to added colorants.
While Flor de Sevilla is bittersweet and Rangpur is fresh and tart, this gin is juicy and softly sweet. The juniper remains recognizable, but the fruit takes center stage. At 41.3% alcohol, it is still a full-strength gin and not a liqueur; it is intended for those who want a fruity gin and tonic or a berry cocktail.
In brief
Juicy berry with a vanilla finish
Ripe blackcurrant
Complex and fruity: juicy, ripe blackcurrant with a floral note behind it.
Softly sweet
Lots of berry fruit with subtle sweetness. The London Dry juniper keeps it balanced.
Vanilla
A soft finish in which vanilla takes the lead, with a hint of florals.
Tasting profile of Tanqueray Blackcurrant Royale neat. With tonic, it becomes drier and the juniper comes through more.
How to pour Blackcurrant Royale
This gin already has plenty of fruit and sweetness. Pair it with something dry or tart: tonic, lemon or bubbles.
Purple gin and tonic
50 ml Blackcurrant Royale with 150 ml neutral tonic in a copa filled with ice, garnished with a few blackberries or blueberries and a slice of lemon. The tonic makes it drier and fresher.
Gin and tonic recipe →Royale with bubbles
20 ml Blackcurrant Royale in a glass, topped up with 100 ml dry prosecco or champagne. A gin version of the Kir Royal.
Kir Royal →Over ice with lemon
4 cl over a large ice cube in a tumbler with a strip of lemon peel. This lets you taste the fruit and vanilla without the sweetness taking over.
