How much beer fits in a 55 cl tankard?
Half a litre with room for the head above it. The stated 55 cl is the total capacity to the brim, so you can pour a normal half litre and still have two fingers of foam left.
Why does a beer tankard have a handle?
The handle keeps your hand off the glass, so body heat doesn't warm the beer. With thick-walled glass that works especially well, because the glass itself holds the cold longer than a thin wall does.
Can a beer tankard go in the freezer?
Better not straight out of the dishwasher. Thick-walled glass is sensitive to rapid temperature changes, because the outside expands faster than the inside. Let the tankard cool to room temperature first, then chill it.
Which size do you choose for everyday use?
The 29 cl. That is the everyday tankard for a glass of lager you drink cold and lift without effort. The 55 cl suits heavier beers better, or the format familiar from German beer halls.
