Why stems break and glasses turn cloudy

Didn't find what you were looking for?
What types of wine glasses are there?
Broadly three: the round Burgundy shape for aromatic red wine, the taller Bordeaux shape for firm tannins and the slim bowl for white. Alongside those there are flutes and coupes for sparkling wine, and universal bowls that handle everything reasonably well.
How many cl should a wine glass hold?
For white wine 20 to 35 cl is usual, for red wine 40 to 60 cl, and Burgundy bowls run up to 96 cl. You fill roughly a fifth, so a bigger bowl does not automatically mean more wine in the glass.
Are there sturdy wine glasses for hospitality use?
Yes. Tempered glass has a reinforced rim and foot and is made for daily dishwasher cycles. Lead-free crystal glass from professional ranges is thinner but just as tough, because it is made more break-resistant in the melt itself.
Are wine glasses dishwasher safe?
Almost everything in this collection can go in the dishwasher. Choose a short programme, place the glasses so that stems do not touch and take them out right after the cycle, because leftover steam settles as limescale.
What is the difference between crystal glass and ordinary glass?
Lead-free crystal glass contains minerals that make the glass stronger and clearer, which allows a thinner wall. Ordinary soda-lime glass is thicker, heavier and slightly less clear, but simpler to replace when it breaks.
